Cross Street Update:

The Massachusetts Land Court has issued final judgement on the 20 Cross Street property, awarding ownership to the Town of Holliston. The Town has for the time being elected to retain the property for municipal use. The Town offers its sincere appreciation to our partners at the state and federal level for their support during this process. 

This initial step is many years in the making, and the Town is pleased to announce that Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and federal Environmental Protection Administration will be side by side with us as we enter this next phase. The EPA has confirmed to the Town that they will be performing the Phase II Environmental  Site Assessment on our behalf. This will not only save the Town a considerable amount of resources, but also confirm if, how, and when the Town will be able to build upon the site. This assessment is expected to begin in the coming weeks.

Capital Expenditure Fund:

The town has entered into an engagement with a long-tenures Town Accountant (from a different community) to conduct an analysis and audit of the Capital Expenditure Fund reporting error.  Updated analysis performed by the Town suggests that while the fund is not overcommitted, the present balance is roughly $830K below where our financial policy dictates the balance should be. The Select Board will keep this matter as a standing agenda item at their meetings to report out updates to the community, other channels will be used as well. I recently recorded an episode of “Just Thinking” with HCAT on this topic, which provides a more in depth look at the issue, and I would encourage members of the community to watch.  

Parks and Recreation Commission Vacancy:

A reminder to the community that the Town of Holliston is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Parks Commission through May 2027. Residents interested in serving are encouraged to submit a Letter of Interest to the Town Manager’s Office by Wednesday, September 9th at 12:00 PM. The appointment will be made jointly by the Parks Commission and Select Board at a meeting tentatively scheduled for September 14th. Additional details, qualifications, and submission information are available on the town website homepage. 

Ribbon cutting for Old Towne Car Wash

The Town of Holliston and Representative James Arena-DeRosa will be holding a ribbon cutting for the new Olde Towne Car Wash. This new business is located at 1650  Washington Street, and the ribbon cutting will take place on 9/8 at 10 a.m. Town staff, board and committee members, and other members of the community will be present and look forward to welcoming this new business to Holliston!
