It could not have been a more picture-perfect last-day-of-summer for the Holliston Historical Society’s 44th Annual Harvest Fair on Sept. 21.

Much like an historic country fair, the property of the Asa Whiting House (circa 1812), now the home of the Historical Society, was filled with visitors browsing handicrafts and wares in vendor booths; enjoying music by the band ‘Always in Season’; partaking in refreshments in the barn, including a crockpot buffet, and the Historical Society’s famous apple pies and apple crisp); trying their luck at the Silent Auction; and listening to the chatter of children enjoying games and activities in the Kids Korner. 

Another entertaining stop was the alpaca pen where attendees - like Mateo Holland, 7, and Lucas Holland, 10, of Holliston - could feed and pet two alpacas. 

“The alpacas are very cute and soft, but the gray one doesn’t seem to want to eat,” said Lucas, as the alpaca stood staring out at the crowd. 

Jack Shockley, 2, of Franklin, enjoyed ‘fishing’ for rubber duckies. “We’re always looking for things to do with him, and we also love crafts,” said his mother, Alex Shockley. “He’s having a blast.”

 Eddie O’Leary, 2, of Medfield, who has family in Holliston, was also having a blast as he prepared to ‘drive’ the big red farm tractor. Eddie attended with his parents, Kerry and Ryan, and his golden retriever, Marvin.
