Submissions Needed For Holliston 300th Anniversary Book

For many of us the town’s 300th is a milestone. Like this writer, many of us simply won’t be around for the 325th.  A trio of authors, Mary Greendale, Joanne Holbert and this writer Bobby Blair had an idea over a year ago to write a Holliston book for the 300th. The book will be unique in that the trio is looking for many authors. While the book will contain a small amount about Holliston’s early history, it mainly picks up where Dorothy Rees left off with her book and we begin in the early 1950’s moving up to the present day. The project comes in two parts, the book itself and a website.
So what brought you to Holliston if you’re not native born. Was it the schools, churches, quaint downtown or maybe relatives already living here?
What events do you remember in the last seventy five years. You get the idea.
In the last several months three Holliston long time businesses have either gone out of business or changed hands. Will anyone remember Holliston Jewelers, Nick’s Central Garage, or the Coffee Haven ten years from now?
Do you have pictures from the 1950’s onward with a small story?, we’re interested. While few will remember Nellie T. O’Brien’s shop on Central Street or Jimmy Inches shop on Washington Street someone may have a photo. How about the bonfire atop the cliff in 1962 which was set alight by vandals.
We hope to have the book in print in time for the 300th and have a deadline of July 23. Submissions can be emailed to Mary Greendale at – [email protected]
